Will there be more competition in the future?
Non-household customers:
Non-household customers who are likely to use at least 50 megalitres of water a year at each premises may be able to benefit from the new water supply licensing regime. If eligible they may be able to choose their water supplier from a range of new companies entering the market. For further information please see go to our WSL section. The Government has committed to review the threshold within 3 years of the regime taking effect.
Household customers:
For the foreseeable future, household customers will not be eligible for competition in the way that they are in other utilities. This is because increasing competition for household customers would require costly and complex regulation, with drawbacks that the Government believes would outweigh any potential benefits.
