Water resale

Whilst most people in England and Wales receive their water and sewerage services directly from the local water company some people receive their water via a 'water resale' arrangement. Water resale occurs when water and sewerage services provided to a person (by the local water company) are sold by that person to a third party. It commonly occurs on mobile home parks, in flats, apartments and other rented or leasehold accommodation.

We have the power to make an Order to say how a maximum price should be worked out to make sure that those who resell water or sewerage services do not overcharge. We introduced such an order, known as the Water Resale Order, in April 2001 to protect resale customers from being overcharged. This was updated on 31 March 2006. Our Water Resale Order can be found in our 'A guide to water resale' (PDF - 755Kb) leaflet. The leaflet describes how charges should be calculated and answers some frequently asked questions.
