Do water companies have to pay compensation if there is a drought?

Where a company takes reasonable steps to avoid interruptions of supply to its customers then compensation is not payable.

However, under Condition Q of their licences, water companies may be required to make payments (or give credits) to customers where essential household water supplies are interrupted or cut off under the authority of an emergency drought order. If payable, the payments for each day (or part day) during which a supply is interrupted or cut off would be £10 for household customers and £50 for business customers (although no customer would receive more than they were billed for water charges in the previous year).

If you believe that you are entitled to a payment (or credit) then you should contact your water company in the first instance.
