Do customers take any notice of restrictions? Water UK found that customers in the South East who were experiencing a hosepipe ban said that they supported the use of hosepipe bans. The majority said they make an effort to comply with restrictions and most also try to take appropriate action to reduce their water usage. Those who usually used hosepipes said they were using watering cans instead, and collecting rainwater to water their gardens. Water companies' experiences during Summer 2006 support the Water UK findings – with some reporting that peak demand was down by as much as 15% compared to previous years.
