Letter sent to named RD, CCWater Chairman, Consumer organisations 11 April 2006 REVIEW OF GUIDELINES FOR DEALING WITH CUSTOMERS IN DEBT: PRE-CONSULTATION DISCUSSION PAPER As set out in our Forward Programme 2005-06 to 2007-08 we are reviewing the "Guidelines on dealing with customers in debt" in 2006. Whilst we are not currently aware of any significant problems with how the guidelines operate we believe it is appropriate to check that they reflect current circumstances and are sufficiently comprehensive. In order to give stakeholders the opportunity to discuss the guidelines in advance of issuing the formal consultation paper, we are organising a half-day workshop on Friday 12 May 2006 at the Water UK offices in London. The workshop will help us to develop proposals for any necessary revisions to the guidelines. Depending on the outcome of the workshop, we currently expect to publish the consultation paper by mid-June 2006 followed by the standard three-month period for response. Our conclusions and any revisions to the guidelines could then be published by the end of this year. Attached to this letter is a short discussion paper setting out the key areas where the guidelines may require updating. These will form the basis for discussion groups at the workshop. A copy of the current guidelines is also enclosed for information. If you, or another representative from your company, would like to attend the workshop, please register your interest by using the attached form.
