My bill has increased by more than my company's price limits. Why is this?
We set a price limit for each year for each company. Price limits are the amount by which companies' average bills can change each year. The average change in each water company's charges must be no more than its price limit plus inflation.
Individual water and sewerage bills can change by more or less than this. For example, a company may increase water charges by less than sewerage charges if sewerage costs are rising faster than the costs of supplying water.
Companies set out their charges in their charges schemes which we approve every year. We check companies' charges schemes carefully to ensure the overall average increase complies with the price limit we have set. We also check that there is no undue preference or discrimination to any group of customers.
Companies publish their charges schemes on their websites. They also post them to customers on request.
