What about customers who can't afford these increases?


We accept that affordability is an issue for many customers. And, in the wake of the 'Cross-Government Review of Water Affordability', we are talking to the Government about how the recommendations in its report will be taken forward, in particular the review of the charging system. We believe that if the Government wishes to offer further assistance to poorer water customers for social policy reasons, such assistance should be provided through the taxation and benefit systems.

Customers who find paying their water bills difficult can talk to their water company about easier ways to pay or the possibility of installing a meter. For example, many customers could save money by switching to a meter and capped bills are available for some customers.
