IB 09/05

22 April 2005
Summaries of companies' monitoring plans published

One-page summaries of each water company's monitoring plan for 2005-10 are now available on the Ofwat website, www.ofwat.gov.uk

The plans set out each company's strategy for delivering environmental and drinking water quality improvements and protecting customers' standards of service. They will enable interested parties to see the improvements that will be carried out in line with the price limits set by the water regulator.

Ofwat and the quality regulators – the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate – will review each company's progress on its commitments.

Notes:
1. Director General of Water Services is the economic regulator of the water and sewerage companies in England and Wales. He exercises his powers in a way that he judges will allow them to carry out their functions properly, and finance them.
2. Each submitted monitoring plan was checked against its final determination. Where inconsistencies were identified, the company was given the opportunity to revise its plan before it was put in the public domain. Where we were unable to agree, we have appended a note to the company's plan setting out Ofwat's regulatory expectations.
3. Each water company has also made its own arrangements to publish its monitoring plan. Interested parties should consult the company they are interested in for further information.
4. Enquiries to Ofwat Press Office on 0121 625 1442/1416/1496. Out of hours enquiries to pager: 08700 555 500 water 502/503.
