Ofwat welcomes appointment of Chair Designate for the new Consumer Council for Water


Ofwat today welcomed the appointment of Dame Yve Buckland as the Chair designate of the new Consumer Council for Water.

Philip Fletcher, Director General of Water Services, said: "I look forward to working with Dame Yve and the new Council in protecting the interests of customers.

"WaterVoice has been influential on behalf of customers and I am sure that the new Consumer Council for Water will develop this important role further."

Notes to Editors:
1. The Director General of Water Services is the economic regulator of the water and sewerage companies in England and Wales. He exercises his powers in a way that he judges will allow them to carry out their functions properly, and finance them.
2. Ofwat has a duty to customers to ensure that:
no undue preference is shown and that there is no undue discrimination in the way that companies fix and recover charges;
and other aspects of customers' interests are protected, e.g. quality of service.
3. The new Consumer Council for Water is due to be fully operational in October this year.
