Ofwat today welcomed the appointment of Dame Yve Buckland as the Chair designate of the new Consumer Council for Water. Philip Fletcher, Director General of Water Services, said: "I look forward to working with Dame Yve and the new Council in protecting the interests of customers. "WaterVoice has been influential on behalf of customers and I am sure that the new Consumer Council for Water will develop this important role further." Notes to Editors: 1. The Director General of Water Services is the economic regulator of the water and sewerage companies in England and Wales. He exercises his powers in a way that he judges will allow them to carry out their functions properly, and finance them. 2. Ofwat has a duty to customers to ensure that: no undue preference is shown and that there is no undue discrimination in the way that companies fix and recover charges; and other aspects of customers' interests are protected, e.g. quality of service. 3.
