PN 13/05 | 9 June 2005 |
Ofwat publishes its 2004-05 annual report |
Ofwat today published its annual report, which provides a comprehensive review of its work as the economic regulator of the water and sewerage industry in England and Wales during the 12 months to 31 March 2005.
Launching the report Director General Philip Fletcher said:
"The review of price limits for 2005-10 has dominated our workload this year. I consider the limits I set are as high as they needed to be but no higher, in order to protect the interests of customers of monopoly service providers. An increase in price limits is necessary to allow the companies to maintain the progress in service quality and performance that has already been achieved and to make the further advances required."
Looking ahead Mr Fletcher said the focus would continue to be on:
· Protecting customers' interests by monitoring the performance of the water companies.
· Working with the water industry, government and fellow regulators to eliminate unnecessary regulation; and
· Finalising the competition framework that will allow new suppliers to enter the market to supply large-scale users where they can make a difference.
