PN 25/07

9 August 2007
Change of water supplier proposed for new Teesside Business Park
Ofwat today published proposals to allow a neighbouring water company to supply water services to a new commercial development in Teesside.

The regulator wants to allow Anglian Water, operating as Hartlepool Water in this area, to supply drinking water to the Wynyard Business Park development in Hartlepool. Although a significant part of the development is situated in Northumbrian Water's supply area, the water company has agreed to the service being provided by Anglian Water. Northumbrian Water will continue to provide sewerage services to the site.

Ofwat is now seeking views on its proposal to allow the change of supplier under an inset appointment.

Keith Mason, Ofwat's Director of Regulatory Finance and Competition, said today:

"All the parties agree that the proposal is the most efficient and sustainable solution. Hartlepool Water has the infrastructure and capacity to supply water to the new site, and can do so immediately without the need for costly upgrades to a water network."
