What does the price review do?
We are the economic regulator of the water and sewerage companies in England and Wales. We carry out our duties under the Water Industry Act 1991 [WIA], allowing the companies to carry out their functions properly, and finance them. We set price limits that allow each company to do this while protecting the interests of customers.
The price limits we set need to be sufficient to allow the companies to: - finance their functions and raise sufficient capital in the City to enable this.
- run their businesses day-to-day to meet all service, quality and environmental compliance obligations;
- maintain asset systems for current and future customers;
- ensure a sufficient balance between supply and demand for both services;
- meet drinking water standards;
- meet obligations on environmental improvements decided by Ministers; and
- make other desirable drinking water quality, service and environmental improvements. For example, reducing the number of homes at risk of sewer flooding.
