RD 15/04

TO REGULATORY DIRECTORS OF ALL
WATER AND SEWERAGE COMPANIES AND
WATER ONLY COMPANIES

5 August 2004

Dear Regulatory Director

CUSTOMER RESEARCH 2004: SURVEY OF CUSTOMERS AFFECTED BY SEWER FLOODING

We enclose a copy of Customer Research 2004: Survey of customers affected by sewer flooding which is published today.

This research was commissioned by Ofwat, and carried out with the help of WaterVoice, Severn Trent Water, Northumbrian Water and Yorkshire Water.

The quantitative research, covering 650 customers, was designed to gather information about the financial and other impacts that internal and external sewer flooding incidents have had on customers. It was conducted by two independent market research companies: Quality Fieldwork (fieldwork and data capture) and Research by Design (analysis and report writing).

We also enclose a copy of the report 'Assessing the benefits of reducing the risk of flooding from sewers'. This report is a study into the tangible economic losses that occur as a result of sewer flooding and was carried out for Ofwat by Colin Green and Theresa Wilson of the Flood Hazard Research Centre at Middlesex University

If you require any more copies of the report, they are available from www.ofwat.gov.uk or the Ofwat library 0121 625 1373.

Yours sincerely

Sue Cox
